This photography workshop will focus on capturing the Mexican cultural heritage of individuals living in Ventura County.

Models: We will feature 6 to 10 models dressed in traditional attire.

Location: Ventura Beach (Surfers Point).

Schedule: We will begin at 2:00 PM at a meeting point in Downtown Ventura to review the fundamentals of photography and lighting. Afterward, we will head to Surfers Point at 4:00 PM to start the portrait session, which will run until 8:00 PM.

Throughout the afternoon, participants will have access to the models, time for private shooting sessions, and my personal guidance, as they will be able to direct models to various spots within the production area. While we will follow a general structure to develop the narrative, there will be plenty of room for creativity and spontaneous exploration.

The price for this unique event is $1,500. A 50% initial deposit is required to reserve your spot; the remaining balance is due one week before the workshop. A non-refundable 25% fee applies in the event of cancellation.

The arrival of the Spanish brought horses and cattle to the New World, ushering in an era of prosperity and fresh challenges. Early cattle ranches gave rise to the first vaqueros—Indigenous, Mestizo, and African individuals who found freedom under the Spanish crown, turning daily fieldwork with horses and ropes into an art form.

With Mexican independence came a fragile freedom, presenting the new nation with fresh trials and necessities. Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg began shaping what is now known as the traditional Charro suit, which soon acquired its own distinct identity. Later, the Mexican Revolution brought new disruption; constant sieges forced many ranches into abandonment, driving people toward cities for safety and giving birth to the first lienzos charros (charrería arenas).

In 2021, Diego Huerta began photographing the men and women who practice charrería across various Mexican and American states, using century-old haciendas and striking natural landscapes as backdrop settings. This collection evolved into a documentary on Amazon by the name of US Charros.
